Minor Program

There is a mutual minor program protocol between Geomatics Engineering and Civil Engineering.

Relevant protocol for Geomatics Engineering students who wish to apply for the Civil Engineering minor program.

Date: 26/07/2021

With the Civil Engineering - Geomatics Engineering Minor Program, proposed to be launched starting from the Fall semester of the 2021 - 2022 Academic Year, the aim is to ensure that successful undergraduate students of the Geomatics Engineering Department develop their knowledge and skills in other fields. This will enable them to be better equipped and one step ahead in today's competitive market conditions.

Principles to be applied during the execution of the Minor Program:

  • Student applications will be evaluated by the Civil Engineering Minor Program Coordinator, who will be appointed by the Head of the Civil Engineering Department, and academic advising will be provided to the accepted students.

  • For each application period, a quota of 2 students will be allocated for the Geomatics Engineering Department in the Civil Engineering Minor Program.

  • When deemed necessary, a consensus of the Academic Boards of the relevant departments will be required for any changes to the quota.

  • A student can take a maximum of 3 courses per semester in the minor program.

  • A student cannot take courses outside the minor curriculum specified in this minor protocol.

  • Application, admission, and registration procedures for the Geomatics Engineering Minor Program, along with all other details related to the program, will be carried out in accordance with the relevant articles of the Hacettepe University Minor Program Directive.

Details regarding the educational activities of the Civil Engineering Minor Program specific to the Geomatics Engineering Department are presented below.

Compulsory Courses

The mandatory courses that Geomatics Engineering Department students must take to complete a Minor in the Civil Engineering Department:

Code Course Name T P C ECTS
İMÜ101 INTRODUCTION TO CIVIL ENGINEERING 2 0 2 3
İMÜ142 STATICS 3 0 3 5
İMÜ222 MATERIALS OF CONSTRUCTION I 2 2 3 4
İMÜ241 STRENGTH OF MATERIALS I 2 2 3 5
İMU311 FLUID MECHANICS I 2 2 3 4
İMÜ331 SOIL MECHANICS I 3 0 3 4
TOTAL         25 ECTS

(Note: T = Theory, P = Practice/Lab, C = Local Credit, ECTS = European Credit Transfer System)

Elective Courses

The elective courses that Geomatics Engineering Department students must take to complete a Minor in the Civil Engineering Department (at least 2 courses must be selected from the table below):

Code Course Name T P C ECTS
IMU312 HYDRAULICS 2 2 3 5
IMÜ332 FOUNDATION ENGINEERING I 3 0 3 5
İMÜ341 STRUCTURAL ANALYSIS I 2 2 3 5
İMÜ351 REINFORCED CONCRETE I 2 2 3 5
İMÜ362 TRANSPORTATION ENGINEERING 2 2 3 5
IMÜ411 HYDROLOGY AND WATER RESOURCES ENGINEERING 3 0 3 4
IMU412 INTRODUCTION TO GROUNDWATER ENGINEERING 3 0 3 4
İMU413 FLUID MECHANICS II 3 0 3 4
TOTAL AT LEAST 2 COURSES

Thus, students are required to take a total of 25 ECTS (compulsory) + at least 2 elective courses, resulting in a minimum total of 34 ECTS to complete the minor program.

26/07/2021

The scope of the Minor Program to be implemented by our Department with the Civil Engineering Department is determined by this protocol. In order for Civil Engineering Department students to graduate from our Department's Minor Program, they must complete a total of at least 35 ECTS credits of courses, including 19 ECTS of compulsory courses from Table 1 and at least 16 ECTS of elective courses from Table 2. The prerequisites defined in Table 3 and Table 4 will be taken into consideration when selecting elective courses. However, possible changes that may occur in the prerequisite conditions of the Geomatics Engineering Undergraduate Program will also be reflected in the prerequisite definitions of the courses included in the protocol.

Principles to be applied in the execution of the Minor Program:

  • Student applications will be evaluated by the Minor Program Coordinator, who will be appointed by the Head of the Geomatics Engineering Department, and academic advising will be provided to the accepted students.

  • For each application period, a quota of 2 will be allocated for the Civil Engineering Department in the Geomatics Engineering Minor Program.

  • When deemed necessary, the consensus of the Department Boards of the relevant departments will be sought for a change in quota.

  • A student cannot take courses other than the courses presented in Table 1 and Table 2, which are determined within the scope of this protocol.

  • Application, admission, and registration procedures for the Geomatics Engineering Minor Program, along with all other details related to the program, will be carried out within the framework of the Hacettepe University Minor Program Directive.
