Undergraduate Graduation Requirements

DEPARTMENT OF GEOMATICS ENGINEERING GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS

Important note: These conditions are valid for students who are not included in the 2024 Geomatics Engineering and 2024 Geomatics Engineering curricula.
  1. A total of 241 ECTS credits (including UNI101) must be successfully completed.
  2. All compulsory courses must be successfully completed.
  3. At least 2 non-departmental courses with a total of at least 7 ECTS credits must be successfully completed.
  4. Excluding non-departmental courses, a total of at least 234 ECTS credits must be completed.
  5. At least 5 ECTS credits from departmental elective group 1 courses must be successfully completed.
  6. At least 5 ECTS credits from departmental elective group 2 courses must be successfully completed.
  7. At least 5 ECTS credits from departmental elective group 3 courses must be successfully completed.
  8. At least 5 ECTS credits from departmental elective group 4 courses must be successfully completed.
  9. A total of at least 45 ECTS credits of departmental elective courses (at least 9 departmental elective courses) must be successfully completed.
  10. The student must not have any failed courses (with an F grade), including non-departmental elective courses.
  11. A minimum cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.00 must be achieved.
Students take the equivalents of the compulsory and elective courses shown in the new program in place of the courses that were in the curriculum in effect prior to the adaptation, which they took and failed, or which they were responsible for but did not take for any reason.
 
Students who have a deficiency in compulsory course credits due to a change made regarding any departmental compulsory course shall complete their missing credits by preferably taking the newly added compulsory courses to the program or departmental elective courses instead of this course/courses. In line with the previous decisions of our university senate, these deficiencies cannot be completed with SEC-coded or other non-departmental course credits.
 

2024-2025 Geomatics Engineering Undergraduate Program Curriculum and Adaptation Procedures

The adaptation rules, equivalences of new and removed courses, and the updated curriculum of compulsory and elective courses arranged to prevent loss of rights for Geomatics Engineering students registered before the 2024-2025 academic year due to curriculum changes, are explained in detail. In this context, the arrangements made for students to complete their credits and meet graduation requirements, as well as the prerequisite and co-requisite statuses of the courses, are also specified.

1. Adaptation Procedures and Course Credit Rights

Compliance with the new program is ensured by preserving the rights of current students from the old curriculum. In this context:

  • All credits taken from departmental compulsory courses continue to be counted as graduation credits, even if the course is removed from the curriculum.
  • Credits taken from departmental elective courses are similarly protected.
  • Adaptation processes of newly added compulsory and elective courses due to the program change are carried out in accordance with the tables.
  • Students must take the equivalent courses specified in the new program instead of the courses they previously failed or are responsible for.
  • In case of a credit deficiency in compulsory courses, students can complete their credits with new compulsory courses or departmental elective courses.
  • Students are granted exemptions for courses that were previously compulsory, failed, and became elective in the new program; in this case, an equivalent elective course or another departmental elective course can be taken, and these credits are counted as compulsory course credits.

2. Equivalences of Removed Courses and Courses to be Taken Instead

Equivalent courses have been determined for the courses removed from the program, and students are obliged to take these equivalent courses instead of the courses they failed. Some prominent equivalences:

  • Some of the courses replacing failed courses are compulsory, and some are elective. This means students can choose departmental electives or new compulsory courses while completing their credits.
  • Equivalences are determined in a similar way for non-departmental elective courses.

4. Changes in Compulsory Course Semester and Elective Groups

  • Although the codes and contents of some courses remained the same, the semesters they belong to in the academic year have been changed (for example:

    • GMT207 Engineering Ethics from 2nd semester to 3rd semester
    • GMT211 Data Structures and Algorithms from 3rd semester to 4th semester)
  • Departmental elective groups of some courses have been updated. For example, GMT414 Deformation Measurements and Analysis has been moved from Group 1 to Group 5 for students after the 1st year.

6. General Structure of the Course Curriculum and Credit Distribution

The program includes a total of 240 ECTS credits, of which 179 ECTS consist of compulsory courses and 61 ECTS consist of elective courses. The credit ratio of compulsory courses is approximately 74.6%, while elective courses are approximately 25.4%.

Course Groups and Elective Courses

  • Departmental Elective courses are divided into different groups (Group 1, Group 2, Group 3, Group 4, Group 5).
  • Students are required to take at least 5 ECTS from Groups 1, 2, and 3, and at least 10 ECTS credits from Group 4.
